The Duchess Wears Zara for England vs. Germany Football match

The Duchess wore Zara for tonight’s big match between England and Germany at the European Football Championship.

The match was at Wembley Stadium.  Behind the family and to the right, you can see David Beckham.

Emily Nash of Hello! shared a video of the family as the national anthem was sung.

Prince William is president of England’s Football Association.  before tonight’s match, here is how the two teams have played in previous meetings.

More commonly called UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), the tournament was meant to be played in June of last year but was postponed due to COVID-19.

In this photo, you can see singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran with his wife, Cherry Seaborn.

Also in the royal box during the match, Romeo Beckham, Ellie Goulding, and former England player David Seaman. I think this photo was taken as England scored its second goal.

More from Simon Perry’s people story:

A treat for Prince George — on a school night!

Kate Middleton and Prince William took 7-year-old kid George to watch England play their latest soccer (or football, as the Brits call it) match at Wembley stadium on Tuesday.

Prince George is a fan and was photographed wearing team gear for his sixth birthday.

And another look at today’s action.

More from The Telegraph.

Prince George proved to be England’s lucky mascot this evening after Gareth Southgate’s squad beat Germany under his watchful gaze.

The seven-year-old was in the royal box at Wembley stadium to watch the national team for the first time.

And the after-school treat need to have exceeded his wildest expectations as the team won 2-1, propelling them into the Euro 2021 quarter finals.

NOTE: The final score was 2-0, not 2-1 as the story said.

And a lot more about the match from The Telegraph’s coverage:

In context, this has to be called a enormous win for England. They have not beaten a major nation in a knockout game considering that 1966. Gareth Southgate said lots of times before this that his players were not cowed by the past, they wanted to make their own history. Tonight, they did it, and with this performance, they take their place in the last eight thinking that, perhaps, this might be their year. Cheers for reading, goodnight.

Below, the Kensington Palace social media accounts posted a jubilant message after the match.

Now for our look at what Kate wore to the match, starting with Zara’s Textured Double-Breasted Blazer ($59.99, sold out).

The jacket is constructed of a textured material that is a blend of cotton/acrylic/polyester.  It features a double-breasted silhouette with padded shoulders, gold buttons, front flap pockets, a welt pocket at the chest, and height lapels.  thank you to Christine for the speedy ID.

It also looked like the Duchess wore her Halcyon Days bangle, shown below when worn to another event.

She may also have had on her Rochas earrings.

All three Cambridges were in team colors.  For those curious about George wearing a jacket and tie instead of a team jersey, I think it is because Prince William was at the match in his official capacity as president of the FA.

Also today, news that the Duchess has been named as sponsor of a new Royal Navy ship, the HMS Glasgow. Prince William announced the sponsorship while visiting the BAE Systems shipyard where the Glasgow is being built.

From the Duke’s remarks:

“Her Majesty The Queen has approved the appointment of my partner Catherine as Sponsor of the superb ship we see taking shape outside – HMS Glasgow. I know that Catherine will be delighted to join you here in Glasgow for the naming ceremony in due course.”

I won’t expect to see the Duchess at the quarter-final football match in Rome this weekend, but believe it’s likely we’ll see her in the next several days at Wimbledon.
